COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

COMPULSORY COURSES

ANTT101 Anatomy

This course provides fundamental knowledge for understanding the structure and functions of the human body. It focuses on basic anatomical concepts from the cellular level to organ systems. Students will learn how body systems function and interact with one another.

FEAD101 Emergency Patient Care I

This course covers the basic principles of patient care in emergency situations. Students acquire skills in assessing different patient conditions encountered in emergency departments, performing interventions, and providing care. Course content includes basic life support, shock management, and initial care of injuries.

FEAD103 Medical Terminology

This course teaches the fundamentals and usage of medical terminology. Students learn the origins, structures, and meanings of medical terms, thereby improving communication skills in healthcare settings. The course focuses on terminology related to anatomy, diseases, treatment methods, and medical procedures.

FEAD105 Trauma

This course focuses on the assessment and management of trauma patients. Students learn types of trauma, emergency intervention methods, and post-trauma care processes. Course content includes fractures, head trauma, thoracic, spinal, abdominal injuries, upper and lower extremity injuries, multiple and special trauma cases, and splinting techniques.

WENG101 Academic English I

WENG 101 is a first semester freshman academic English course. It is designed to help students improve the level of their English to B1+ level, as specified in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course connects critical thinking with language skills and incorporates learning technologies. The purpose of the course is to consolidate students’ knowledge and awareness of academic discourse, language structures and lexis. The main focus will be on the development of productive (writing and speaking) and receptive (reading and listening) skills in academic settings.

WTUR101 Turkish I

This course is designed to introduce students with the basic grammar and writing skills and help students to further develop their Turkish language abilities and have a better understanding of the culture. The students will be able to participate in simple conversations, read and comprehend various authentic texts, listen to conversations and answer questions.

WATA101 Principles of Atatürk I

The content of the course covers the history of the revolution that the Turkish nation went through under the leadership of Ataturk. The reasons for the collapse of the Ottoman Empire are examined and how the State of the Republic of Turkey was established from a de facto destroyed state is evaluated in the light of documents. The founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal realized by Atatürk Turkish Revolution, the nation-state and modernity and secularism case of Turkey in the context of phrases and meanings corresponding to the Kemalist thought to teach the students.

AIAI101 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

This course provides a foundational overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, applications, and ethical considerations for students from all disciplines. It introduces basic AI principles, including machine learning, data-driven decision making, and everyday AI technologies, without requiring prior technical knowledge. Students will explore how AI impacts society, industry, education, and creative practices, and develop critical awareness of its opportunities and limitations.

PHYS101 Physiology

This course aims to examine the functions of the human body in detail. Students learn about the functioning of the nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, kidneys, and other organ systems, as well as the relationships between these systems. Both normal physiological processes and pathological conditions are addressed.

FEAD104 Emergency Patient Care II

This course is a continuation of Emergency Patient Care I and covers advanced patient care. Students learn more complex care strategies and intervention techniques in emergency situations. Topics include advanced life support, airway management, and medication administration.

FEAD106 Emergency Health Services I

This course covers the organization and management of emergency health services. Students learn about the structure, functioning, and coordination of emergency healthcare systems. Topics include emergency management systems, triage, and patient transportation.

WENG102 Academic English II

This course is designed to further help students improve their English to B2 level, as specified in the Common European Framework of References for Languages. The course aims to reconsolidate and develop students’ knowledge and awareness of academic discourse, language structures, and critical thinking. The course also incorporates use of technologies. The course will focus on reading, writing, listening, speaking and introducing documentation, and will also focus on presentation skills in academic settings.

WTUR102 Turkish II

Basic rules of Turkish, phonetics (sounds, alphabet reading rules), vocabulary (words as structure) recognition, relations between words), sentence knowledge (sentence structures, general structure and sentence types), reading and writing (reading rules and writing techniques, spelling rules, comprehension of spoken and written language. spelling rules.), reading –comprehension (reading comprehension techniques, applications on texts), listening (listening comprehension, listening comprehension) making necessary comments by taking notes, applications on texts suitable for students’ own professions), speaking (learning speaking techniques, learning shapes such as certain emphasis, and intonation).

WATA102 Principles of Atatürk II

This course focuses on the political, social, economic, and cultural reforms implemented during the early Republican period in line with Atatürk’s principles. It examines the core concepts of Kemalism—such as republicanism, nationalism, populism, statism, secularism, and reformism—and analyzes their role in shaping modern Turkish society. Through historical examples and key texts, students develop an understanding of the lasting impact of Atatürk’s principles on Turkey’s contemporary political and social structure.

ACYP102 Cyprus History and Culture

This course introduces the historical, cultural, and social development of Cyprus from ancient times to the present. It examines the island’s diverse civilizations, cultural heritage, traditions, and identity within a broader Mediterranean and regional context. Students will gain an understanding of Cyprus’s historical.

FEAD200 Summer Internship

This course aims to enable students who have completed the first year of the First and Emergency Aid Program to undertake professional practice in real healthcare settings during the summer period. Students observe and participate in basic practices in ambulance services, emergency departments, and related healthcare units, translating theoretical knowledge into practice. The summer internship contributes to the development of professional skills, teamwork experience, and preparation for professional life.

FEAD201 Emergency Patient Care III

This course covers advanced applications in emergency patient care. Students work on critical patient assessment and management, decision-making processes in emergency interventions, and complex case scenarios. Topics include advanced respiratory support, cardiac arrhythmias, and severe trauma.

FARM201 General Pharmacology

This course aims to examine the mechanisms of action, indications, and side effects of medications. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, drug interactions, dosage calculations, and basic drug groups are covered. Students gain knowledge on safe medication practices.

FEAD202 Clinic Training and Practice

This course aims to enable students to apply theoretical knowledge in clinical settings. Students gain professional experience by participating in real patient care in hospitals and emergency departments. The course includes the development of clinical skills, patient communication, and practices in accordance with ethical principles.

FEAD206 Emergency Health Services II

This course is a continuation of Emergency Health Services I and covers advanced emergency healthcare services. Students gain knowledge on strategic planning in emergency management, disaster management, and response to mass casualty incidents. The course focuses on leadership and organizational structures in emergency health services.

FEAD108 Ambulance Service Training I

This course covers the training of healthcare personnel who will work in ambulance services. Students learn how to use ambulance equipment, patient transport techniques, and emergency intervention procedures. The course focuses on in-ambulance patient care and safety.

FEAD203 Ambulance Service Training II

This course is a continuation of Ambulance Service Training I and covers advanced ambulance services. Students gain knowledge and skills in critical care within the ambulance, emergency intervention protocols, and advanced patient transport techniques. The course focuses on the coordination of ambulance services and emergency management.

WETH201 Principles of Ethics

This course discusses the ethical questions raised by the pursuit of a good life, especially in relation to the notions of academic integrity and civic duties. Cases where the boundary between private and public interests has been blurred will be examined in order to understand how ethical theory might inform academic and public life.

FEAD204 Physical Education

This course aims to improve students’ physical abilities, maintain physical health, and increase endurance required in professional life. The course includes flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination exercises. Students are expected to develop health and fitness awareness and prepare for the physical demands of professional practice.

FEAD208 ECG Analysis

This course focuses on the analysis and interpretation of electrocardiograms (ECG). Students learn the basic principles of ECG, normal and abnormal ECG findings, and the use of ECG in cardiac emergencies. Topics include arrhythmias, ischemic changes, and ECG waveforms.

FEAD210 Resuscitation

This course focuses on resuscitation methods and practices. Students learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatric resuscitation techniques. The course includes resuscitation equipment, protocols, and emergency management.
