Developments in technology, communication and transportation systems along with globalization have accelerated the development of the international tourism sector and greatly increased the need for qualified personnel. It is our most important responsibility to ensure that qualified middle and upper-level management candidates needed by the tourism sector and tourism enterprises are equipped with professional knowledge and skills related to business administration and management. As a dynamic and innovative university, our aim is to educate individuals with the necessary competence and competence that will quickly take their place in international competition by integrating the theoretical knowledge of our students with practical skills.

Graduates of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management will be able to find employment opportunities at middle and upper levels in areas such as accommodation management, food and beverage management, travel management and recreation management in the tourism sector within the framework of the theoretical and practical knowledge they have acquired. In addition, our graduates will have the opportunity to establish their own businesses by using their entrepreneurial knowledge and skills.

TOUR101 Introduction to Tourism

This course aims to define and characterize tourists and the tourism industry, compare and contrast different social theories that apply to tourists and tourism development, evaluate different tourism management strategies and considerations, identify and discuss the different stages and management considerations of the tourist experience and examine the various economic, sociocultural, and technological aspects of tourism, transportation and communication in tourism.

BUSN101 Business I

This course will be a broad overview of specific business topics. It aims to give students a background of modern

business principles. Also, this course will introduce students to the business profession by incorporating and integrating business knowledge and information across departmental curriculum lines to enhance the overall comprehension of the business world.

 

WENG101 – Academic English I

WENG 101 is a first semester freshman academic English course. It is designed to help students improve the level of their English to B1+ level, as specified in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course connects critical thinking with language skills and incorporates learning technologies. The purpose of the course is to consolidate students’ knowledge and awareness of academic discourse, language structures and lexis. The main focus will be on the development of productive (writing and speaking) and receptive (reading and listening) skills in academic settings.

 

WTUR101 – Turkish I

This course is designed to introduce students with the basic grammar and writing skills and help students to further develop their Turkish language abilities and have a better understanding of the culture. The students will be able to participate in simple conversations, read and comprehend various authentic texts, listen to conversations and answer questions.

WATA101 – Principles of Atatürk I

The content of the course covers the history of the revolution that the Turkish nation went through under the leadership of Ataturk. The reasons for the collapse of the Ottoman Empire are examined and how the State of the Republic of Turkey was established from a de facto destroyed state is evaluated in the light of documents. The founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal realized by Atatürk Turkish Revolution, the nation-state and modernity and secularism case of Turkey in the context of phrases and meanings corresponding to the Kemalist thought to teach the students.

 

Math101 Math I

This course illustrates mathematics used in business and economics. It will be the base to learn problem solving by applications. The topics covered are equations and inequalities; lines, parabolas and systems; business mathematics with their applications functions; logarithmic functions.

AIAI101–Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

This course provides a foundational overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, applications, and ethical considerations for students from all disciplines. It introduces basic AI principles, including machine learning, data-driven decision making, and everyday AI technologies, without requiring prior technical knowledge. Students will explore how AI impacts society, industry, education, and creative practices, and develop critical awareness of its opportunities and limitations.

 

WTUR102 TURKISH II

Basic rules of Turkish, phonetics (sounds, alphabet reading rules), vocabulary (words as structure) recognition, relations between words), sentence knowledge (sentence structures, general structure and sentence types), reading and writing (reading rules and writing techniques, spelling rules, comprehension of spoken and written language. spelling rules.), reading –comprehension (reading comprehension techniques, applications on texts), listening (listening comprehension, listening comprehension) making necessary comments by taking notes, applications on texts suitable for students; own professions), speaking (learning speaking techniques, learning shapes such as certain emphasis, and intonation).

 

ACYP102- Cyprus History and Culture

This course introduces the historical, cultural, and social development of Cyprus from ancient times to the present. It examines the island’s diverse civilizations, cultural heritage, traditions, and identity within a broader Mediterranean and regional context. Students will gain an understanding of Cyprus’s historical transformations and cultural diversity, fostering awareness of its contemporary social and cultural dynamics.

TOUR102 International Hospitality Operations Management

This course aims to understand the relevant and applicable theories and models of operations management and support students to develop operational plans that can be used by tourism and hospitality organizations. Students will be able to learn operational problems can be effectively concluded by focusing on appropriate performance objectives and strategies, designing marketable products, services and processes, managing capacity and improvements as well as implementing sustainable practices.

TOUR104 Housekeeping Operations

This course aims to teach the efficient operations to hotel cleaning and housekeeping management. It includes: room preparation and cleaning, the bed-making process, bathroom cleaning, cart preparation, stocking of linen, minibar cleaning, cleaning of other hotel areas, essential customer service skills.

 

TOUR106 Travel Agency and Tour Operating

This course aims to define travel and tourism concepts, the structure of travel industry, the characteristics and activities of travel agencies, explains tour operator and package tour concepts, identifies the effects of travel and tourism on destination countries.

 

TOUR108 Nutrition and Sanitation

This course aims to teach the principles of food production, food storage, food preparation and food use, to explain the principles behind meal planning, the role of the nutritional value of foods and how this affects food service operations, identify sanitation and safety principles as well as discuss relevant hygiene issues (HACCP) and the associations between food, technology, dietary recommendations.

 

WENG102 Academic English II

This course is designed to further help students improve their English to B2 level, as specified in the Common

European Framework of References for Languages. The course aims to reconsolidate and develop students’ knowledge and awareness of academic discourse, language structures, and critical thinking. The course also incorporates use of technologies. The course will focus on reading, writing, listening, speaking and introducing documentation, and will also focus on presentation skills in academic settings.

 

TOUR201 Front Office Operations

This course analyze the guest cycle with the aim of exceeding guest expectations, developing skills in the management and implementation of guest service and the ability to evaluate the significance of the hotel revenue cycle in order to optimize revenues.

 

ACCN201 Financial Accounting I

This course demonstrates the financial accounting cycle of a company which will serve as the basis of understanding, preparing and analyzing the financial statements. Topics covered include accounting for decision making; basic financial statements; capturing economic events; accruals and deferrals; and reporting financial results.

WETH201 Principles of Ethics

This course discusses the ethical questions raised by the pursuit of a good life, especially in relation to the notions of academic integrity and civic duties. Cases where the boundary between private and public interests has been blurred will be examined in order to understand how ethical theory might inform academic and public life.

 

TOUR203 Mice Tourism

This course aims to teach the types of meetings, incentive tours, conferences and events; Arrangement and facilitation of   meetings, incentive tours business and its management, process of planning and organizing events.

 

TOUR202 Sustainability in Tourism & Transport

This course is designed to analyze the tourism systems model and transportation, evolution of mass tourism, sustainability and the economic geography of the cruise ship and airline industry

TOUR204 Food and Beverage Management

This course aims to learn about the overall catering operations and the duties taken up by the catering manager including human resources management, sales management, promotion and daily operations, budgeting and cost analysis, food and beverage purchasing and storage.

ECON204 Tourism Economics

This course provides to understand the conceptual framework of economic analysis by relating it to the tourism and economic impacts. In terms of economic impacts, airlines, accommodation, tour operators and travel agencies. The students will be able to understand and interpret basic concepts of economics.

TOUR208 Nutrition and Sanitation

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of human nutrition and the importance of sanitation in food preparation and service environments. It covers the nutritional value of food, dietary needs across various populations, and the role of nutrition in promoting health and preventing disease. Students will learn about macronutrients, micronutrients, food labeling, and how dietary guidelines are used to create balanced diets.

FLAN202 Communication Skills in Business

The course provides the students with an understanding of the essential elements of a presentation. The participants will practice skills that will make them better speakers and presenters, preparing them for their further academic career and enabling them to function successfully in professional environments.

TOUR301 Tourism Policy & Development

This course designed to develop an understanding of the basic concepts of tourism planning for public and private sector community and regional tourism development, theoretical approaches, indicators for monitoring tourism impacts and practical advice for tourism planning and product development.

 

HRMN301 Organizational Behavior

This course designed to provide an in-depth understanding of how individuals and groups behave within organizations. The course examines key factors influencing behavior at various organizational levels, from individual attitudes and motivations to group dynamics and organizational structures. Topics typically covered include motivation, leadership, communication, decision-making, organizational culture, power and politics, conflict resolution, and change management.

TOUR300 INTERNSHIP I

This course is  designed to provide students with hands-on, practical experience in a professional work setting related to their field of study. The course allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to real-world situations, enhancing their understanding of industry practices and professional standards.

 

TOUR302 Restaurant and Bar Management

This course is designed to equip the students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform duties, tasks and steps required of a bartender in the various bar and food and beverage outlets. The students will learn the essentials of working and managing a bar, including the basics on responsible service of alcohol, how to manage employees, keeping up with the industry, marketing and social media, stress management, and an overview of how to make different drinks.

HRMN302: Human Resource Management

This course aims to assist students to acquire an academic understanding of human resource management (HRM) at the undergraduate level. It provides a comprehensive review of main concepts, functions, and processes in HRM. Through critical discussions of functions and dimensions of HRM, the course targets to help students answer two essential questions: Why and in what ways HRM is one of the most significant management functions in organisations? And whose responsibility is HR management?

 

MARK306 Digital Marketing

This course is designed to develop a strategic framework for planning and analyzing digital marketing strategies. The students will gain an understanding of using digital channels to achieve their marketing goals.

 

MISY401 Management Information Systems

This course introduces computer terminology, hardware, software, operating systems, and information systems relating to the business environment. The main focus of this course is on business applications of software, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint and Outlook.

 

TOUR403 Tour Guiding

This course aims to teach the basic tourism aspects, comprehend the requirements, role and responsibilities of profession of a tourist guide, apply the knowledge acquired in managing different groups and guiding in a tour and explain basic values related to tourism and heritage.

TOUR400 Internship II

This course is  designed to provide students with hands-on, practical experience in a professional work setting related to their field of study. The course allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to real-world situations, enhancing their understanding of industry practices and professional standards.

TOUR402 Tourism Seminar

The aim of the seminar course is to develop students’ research capacities and guide them in drafting a research proposal. The students will be able to learn presentation and communication skills, as well as competence in working autonomously and in a group, and learn how to write a research proposal effectively.

 

TOUR404 Case Studies in Tourism

The aim of this course is to help students who are at the graduation stage in the process of applying the theoretical knowledge in the courses they take within the scope of the curriculum to life through the managers and employees who are actively involved in the tourism sector.

The course aims to inform the student of the nature and importance of small businesses. Students are also introduced to opportunities and risks inherent in small businesses and entrepreneurship. This course covers topics on foundations of small business ownership and entrepreneurship; creativity and innovation as an integral part of entrepreneurship; strategic management process in small firms; franchising; developing feasibility analysis and forming business plans.

TOUR405 Cultural Tourism

This course designed to explain a general idea about cultural tourism management and the principles and processes of operation management of cultural attractions and cultural tourism business,  discuss about visitor attractions management at the cultural sites including interpretation and presentation, design of process and product interface and visitor.

 

TOUR414 Tourism Law

The aim of this course is to learn the basic national and international regulations related to tourism legislation, to have basic knowledge about the problems encountered in practice and to give the student a legal perspective.

 

BUSN403 Knowledge Management

This course aims to provide the students the opportunity for understanding the importance of knowledge management in organizations as an intangible asset apart from the tangible assets. Two essential theories of knowledge management, which are knowledge-based view of firms and resourced-based view of organizations, will be illustrated as a fundamental organizational strategy. Some of the case studies are examined and analysed from the knowledge management theories and perspectives. Both tacit and explicit dimensions of knowledge will be revealed and Nonaka’s SECI model (socialization, externalization, combination and internalization) will be considered during the lecture.

 

BUSN405 Diversity Management

Managing diversity influences organizational performance and environment. This course provides an introduction to arrange of theoretical and applied approaches from various disciplines, so that students can analyze workforce diversity in modern organizations and then design, evaluate and implement strategies to manage workforce diversity.

FNCE402 International Finance

The objective of this course is to introduce international finance fundamental subjects, build a theoretical framework of international finance questions, and derive a practical guide to solve international finance problems Topics covered include balance of payments, types of exchange rates systems, international financial markets and derivatives on currency and interest rates, financial crises.

 

TOUR406 Innovation and Development in Restaurant Operations

This course aims to introduce students how to improve their understanding of restaurant  management and this course also discusses how to use innovation to attract their customer’s loyalty and applies innovation on the sustainable development of restaurant management.

 

TOUR407 Understanding Hotel Revenue Management

This course focuses on skills revenue managers require to manage revenue through demand and supply management, strategic pricing, market segmentation, buyer behavior analysis and distribution management.

 

TOUR408 Strategic Analysis of Hospitality

This course is designed to introduce the concept of strategy and the factors affecting strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation in the international hospitality. The students will be able to learn to develop their ability to critically analyse strategic management issues and present the results of this analysis in an engaging and informative fashion.

 

BUSN411 Business Plan

This course includes the development of a new venture from idea generation through business planning, funding and startup. The students will be able to understand on how a real company works and how to integrate their knowledge from different areas in the development of the business plan.

This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the main issues in tourism economics including theoretical models and empirical applications. The students will be able to learn the effects of climate change and tourism movements, the economic impact of tourism and the environmental effects of tourism industry.

This course is an introduction to business research, focusing on the methods and tools used in empirical research.

Students will learn about various types of study, such as non-experimental and experimental research, as well as

qualitative and quantitative research. The course will also cover the steps involved in the research process, from

defining the problem and reviewing the literature to designing the study and analyzing data. Students will also learn about statistical methods and formulas and how to analyze, interpret, and visualize data. Additionally, the course will cover how to write a proper research report, including its content, layout, and references. By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and skills to design and use practical tools for conducting research surveys, analyze research data using basic statistical methods and tools, and write a report and present the research findings.

 

BUSN302 Consumer Behavior

Consumer behavior involves studying the process a consumer uses to make purchase decision, to dispose of purchased goods and services and study factors that influence purchase decisions and the use of products. This course will examine, types of customers, steps of decision making, factors influencing consumer behavior etc.
