Altınbaş Cyprus University

The department was established in 2023 and offers an Associate Degree Diploma in English. It aims to provide students with a solid background in the theories and practises of first and emergency response and to train paramedics who are leaders in their field.

The rationale for the opening of the First and Emergency Aid Assistance program is to train healthcare professionals with a valid driver’s license who can apply necessary first aid in home, work, traffic accidents, and other emergencies. These trained professionals will be capable of transporting the patient to a healthcare facility in a well-equipped ambulance service promptly and without causing harm, and also able to implement qualified healthcare interventions.

Our aim in this programme is to train health workers who can provide the necessary first aid in disasters such as accidents, fires and other emergencies such as heart attacks, respiratory arrest and other emergencies, who can take the patient to a health facility in a timely and safe manner with a well-equipped ambulance, who can apply qualified medical measures, who are careful and cold-blooded and have a strong sense of responsibility, who can communicate well with others.

The program is a two-year program, two semesters per year, and the mode of study is full-time. The First and Emergency Aid curriculum has a total of 88 credits and 120 ECTS.

Our mission is to graduate successful and well-equipped software engineers for successful careers and graduate education with a thorough understanding of software engineering and experiential learning opportunities to apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems.

First and Emergency Aid Programme Educational Objectives:
Our First and Emergency Aid Programme provides excellent learning experiences to develop successful technicians in the rapidly evolving healthcare field. Our programme prepares students to:
1. Apply the guidelines recognised by medical authorities and the flow charts prescribed by legislation during intervention with emergency patients and injured persons within the authority given by legislation.
2. Prepare and administer medications appropriate to the patient and characteristics of the condition.
3. Maintain necessary patient records in accordance with procedure.
4. Has basic specialised knowledge.
5. Utilises the necessary knowledge and skills to protect both the patient and self psychologically and socially in the event of emergency assistance.
6. Have an understanding of continuing professional development in line with professional and universal values.
7. Communicates verbally and in writing with patients, family members and other healthcare professionals.

First and Emergency Aid Programme Outcomes:
Based on the health industry and students’ expectations, graduates of the program are expected to demonstrate:
1. In the event of sudden illness or injury, he is quickly on the scene, assesses the situation together with the doctor, if available, carries out the initial intervention if necessary and ensures transport to the appropriate hospital emergency service by the correct route.
2. Within the framework of the powers granted by the legislation, he applies the guidelines recognised by the medical authorities and the flow charts prescribed by the legislation when intervening with the emergency patient and the injured person.
3. He knows the status of the emergency medical services in the world and in Turkey and the duties and responsibilities of the first responder and the emergency responder in this system.
4. Prepares and applies the appropriate medication for the patient and the characteristics of the disease.
5. Keeps the necessary records of the patient according to the procedure.
6. Makes calm, quick and correct decisions at the scene.
7. Has basic technical knowledge.
8. Communicates verbally and in writing with patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals.
9. Utilises the necessary knowledge and skills to protect both the patient and self psychologically and socially in the event of an emergency response.
10. Has an understanding of continuing professional development in line with professional and universal values.
11. Embraces national and universal values as a principle for intellectual and social self-development.
12. Have knowledge of quality development and quality standards.
